The man who opened fire at a bar in Philadelphia killed two people and wounded another

9 people are hospitalized after a shooting outside a bar in Philadelphia, police say.

A man opened fire inside an outdoor patio bar around 1:30 a.m. Sunday in north Philadelphia, fatally shooting at least six people and leaving two others in critical condition, police said. It was unclear if the person who killed himself was the gunman or someone he was angry with.

Six people were shot inside a bar by a man holed up in an outdoor patio, police and hospital officials said.

According to a preliminary police report, the shooter entered the bar through a door in the back of the building. Police said they are treating the incident as a “road rash” shooting.

The gunman exchanged gunfire with three people before shooting himself in the head. Police said he then turned the gun on himself.

The shooter killed his wife during the confrontation at The Ivy, where patrons watch boxing and dance performances by some of the world’s best-paid professional boxers.

“You want to know why I’m talking about boxing? Because it’s the reason for this,” said David Rokeach, the man who founded the entertainment company that produces it. “If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t show this fight live. I’d pull the cameras.”

The shooting came a week after a man killed five people and wounded six more in a nightclub shooting in Orlando, Fla.

The gunman behind that attack is believed to have targeted the gay nightlife community, including a large gay and lesbian nightclub known as Pulse.

A gunman who allegedly opened fire at an outdoor dining area in a Philadelphia restaurant killing two people and wounding another is being described as an angry man with a long history of domestic violence.

William Broadnax, the owner of Pintrest Steakhouse, told reporters Sunday that he was surprised by the apparent attack by a man he thought was with his daughter outside a bar in the Germantown area.

“The guy walked out with his hands up in a surrender position, saying that he’s not going to hurt anybody. But he’s just a kid,” Mr. Broadnax said.

Police said Sunday they were investigating a shooting at Pintrest Steakhouse in Philadelphia.
